Inspiring the next generation of coders

Back to articles

As part of National Coding Week, we hosted an interactive workshop for kids to introduce them to the exciting world of coding.

If you thought coding was the exclusive domain of computer whizzes and tech savants? Think again. Over the weekend, we proved that everyone can get started in coding by hosting a fun and interactive workshop for kids at our Bolton office.

As the culmination of National Coding Week, our Saturday morning event saw some of our AO’ers bring their young ones into the office to get hands-on with some simple coding activities.

We had a total of 25 youngsters aged from 4 to 13 take part, with the younger ones learning the basics of coding while our older guests got to grips with how to code their own interactive stories, games and animation.

With this fun session, we wanted to demystify coding for a new generation that might otherwise overlook this highly creative pursuit. By the workshop’s end, we had several young ones declare their interest in pursuing careers as game developers and software programmers – with some hoping to one day snag a role at AO!

This inspiring experience was the perfect finale to our National Coding Week activity, which also included daily tech blogs and augmented reality experiences here at AO. It’s been an illuminating, awe-inspiring week of insight, and we’re looking forward to exploring the world of coding again this time next year!
