I’ve always felt empowered to progress my career

Frankie joined our Tech team in 2019 and was happy to tell us all about how she’s progressed.

“As someone who studied Ancient Greek and Latin at Uni, I haven’t come from a traditional tech background but since finishing my degree, I’ve been really passionate about carving a career in tech.

I gained experience in a few Junior Business Analyst roles before landing a job as a BA here at AO. I’d heard so many good things about the company from my brother, who works on the tech team, so I was really persistent about getting my foot in the door!

Despite working in a male-dominated industry, I’ve always felt empowered to progress my career. In October, I moved into a new role as a Product Owner and I now collaborate with stakeholders to develop the strategy, which we then work on as a team. There’s an assumption that tech is all about coding, but my role is very customer-focused. We try to understand what the customer wants from us and make sure that they have the best possible experience. You could say we ask the best questions to really give customers what they need.

Working from home was initially a challenge but as a team, we’ve really adapted our ways of working, with plenty of social chats and coffee breaks. I find the culture so inclusive and I always feel like I can talk openly about my mental health and wellbeing. It’s a really supportive community.”
