Congratulations to our Yorkshire Three Peak’ers’!

Back to articles

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge took place last weekend, and 39 of our very own AO’ers took part!

They took on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the glorious (but boiling hot!) sunshine. They walked a whopping 24 miles, including a gruelling 5200ft of ascent! Phew.

If this wasn’ impressive enough, everyone who took part raised £8,777.32 for Cancer Research. This is an incredible sum that will go towards changing the lives of people affected by Cancer.

Michael Bates, our Chief Brand & People Officer was amongst the volunteers to cheer on those taking part, had this to say ‘Well done to everyone involved in the challenge. It’s always great to see AO’ers really pulling together for a great cause. You all should be very proud of completing the challenge, especially in the heat.’

All 39 AO’ers who took part, successfully completed the challenge in under 11 hours despite the heat, the blisters and other minor walking related issues. This achievement was only possible because of the amazing help from our volunteers and event leaders.

Colin, who was one of the AO’ers who took part said “I felt confident as we set off as we were surrounded by great guides (Ali, Ryan, Chris, and Craig) all of whom had practiced the route and sacrificed their timings on the day, to make the day a success for others!

We had an amazing support team who kept the process running like clockwork (Aimee, Mark, Bethany, Sabaah, Beth, Yvonne, and Katie). They checked each and every person in and out of the checkpoints and ensured they were fuelled, hydrated, and motivated to carry on.

The group’s pace took us totally by surprise – we’d planned on the tail end of the group coming over the line in 13 hours – the ‘slowest’ got over the line in 10 and a half hours – absolutely smashing the 12 hour challenge! This was incredible given the heat on the day.

Well done everyone!  #aoletsgo
