This November employees from AO joined the AO Smile Foundation and Manchester based charity Once Upon a Smile to help a local bereaved family from Bury, whose father is battling with cerebral palsy, to create a dream home for his family.
The family whose home had fallen into disrepair have been through a tough year following their mum, Lianne sadly losing her life after complications with childbirth. Dad Chris, was left to bring up their children Zac (aged 9), Louie (aged 7) and baby Poppy, on his own.
The ambitious 2 day makeover saw our team of 15 volunteers, cleaning, painting and decorating to help make the house safe and somewhere the children could enjoy and call home. The volunteers are all part of the AO scheme that sees it invest in young people, and they are all currently undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Business Awards and the AO’s apprenticeship programme.
AO.com apprentice, Dominic Foran who took part in the challenge commented, “I’m so proud to be a part of this great team that helped a family that deserves it the most. This is a fantastic opportunity for us young people to give back to the community and seeing the transformation and the families’ reaction to their new home made all the hard work worthwhile.”
