Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? You’re in the right place!
We’ve pulled together the things people ask us most often to help you feel confident and prepared throughout our recruitment process. If anything’s unclear, or you need support or adjustments, feel free to email us at careers@ao.com…we’re always happy to help!
It depends on the role, but your interview could include competency and values based questions, a chat through your CV, or an opportunity to show your technical knowledge. Some roles may also include a task or assessment.
Your recruiter will walk you through exactly what to expect so you feel prepared and confident before your interview.
You can also read more about AO’s interview process on our dedicated Recruitment page.
We don’t have a set dress code at AO, we just want you to feel comfortable and like yourself when you come to meet us. There’s no need for anything too formal, but we’d recommend going for smart casual so you feel confident and ready to go. Think less “suited and booted” and more “feeling your best”. Wear something that lets you shine and helps you put your best foot forward.
If a role is no longer showing on our careers site, it usually means we’ve already filled it or we’re no longer accepting applications, so you won’t be able to apply this time. But keep an eye on our vacancies and you might spot something else that’s a perfect fit for you!
Yes, you’re welcome to reapply. We’d just recommend giving it around 3–6 months before applying for the same type of role again. This gives you time to build on any feedback, develop your skills, and feel even more confident the next time you apply.
Yes, you can apply for multiple roles if you feel they’re a good match for your skills, experience and what you’re looking for next. We’d just recommend applying for the roles that genuinely align with your background, rather than everything on the page. It helps us understand where you’d thrive and makes sure you’re putting your best self forward.
If we think you might be a better fit for a different role than the one you’ve applied for, we’ll chat to you about it. Part of our job is spotting talent, and we always want to match people to the place where they’ll shine the most.
Absolutely! If you need any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process, we’re here to support you to make sure you have the best possible experience. Whether it’s when you submit your application, during conversations with our team, or in an interview, just let us know what you need to feel comfortable and set up for success. We’ll always do our best to make the process accessible for you. Head over to our Recruitment page to read more about reasonable adjustments.
We get a lot of applications, so we’re not able to give individual feedback at the CV screening stage.
If you’ve come in for an interview, we’ll always make sure you get feedback. We want you to leave the process feeling clear on your next steps and supported in your development, whatever the outcome.
As part of the recruitment process, we’ll need to check your Right to Work documents. This is something every UK employer is legally required to do. Your recruiter will let you know exactly what you need and guide you through the process, so there’s nothing to worry about.
You can find more information about Right to Work documents on our Recruitment page.
Some of our roles do require additional checks, such as a DBS, financial, or a driving license check. This isn’t the case for every role, and if these are needed for the role you’ve applied for, your recruiter will let you know early in the process so you know exactly what to expect.
We store your data in our recruitment system for up to one year, then it’s automatically deleted. If you’d like it removed sooner, just let us know.
We also collect data to help us understand how inclusive our hiring process is. This information is used only for reporting and improvement, it has no impact on your application and isn’t shared with hiring managers or the recruitment team.

We occasionally hire graduates into roles across the business when opportunities come up, and these roles are listed on our careers site as soon as they’re available. It’s always worth checking in regularly if you’re starting out in your career and want to grow with us!
We do offer internships, work experience and placements from time to time. When opportunities do come up, we’ll always share them on our careers site, so it’s worth checking for any roles that interest you.
If you’re already an AOer, you can also explore apprenticeship opportunities to help you learn new skills and grow your career with us.
Visa sponsorship is not available for most of our roles. Where sponsorship is available, this will be made clear in the job advert and will be subject to role eligibility and immigration requirements.
We work with a small group of approved recruitment agencies, and are not looking to add new partners right now. We really appreciate the interest though, and if anything changes in the future, we’ll update our approach.
