About The Role

As a Shift Manager, you'll lead one of our largest operational teams, with responsibility for over 100 colleagues across both permanent and agency workforces.

Working nights, you'll be the senior operational leader on shift, setting standards, driving performance and creating an environment where people can thrive. You'll be equally comfortable celebrating success, coaching performance and having challenging conversations when needed.

You'll lead from the front in a fast-paced logistics environment, balancing operational delivery with people leadership to ensure every shift runs safely, efficiently and on plan.

This role is ideal for an experienced people manager who can continue to develop and navigate ways or working, thrives in high-volume operations, enjoys building strong teams and isn't afraid to tackle difficult situations head on.

  • Salary: £41,954.34
  • Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off rotational shift pattern.
  • Hours: 40.25
  • Start/Finish time; 6.00pm-6.00am

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

Leadership & Support

  • Lead, motivate and support a team of permanent and agency colleagues.
  • Allocate work and ensure operational targets are achieved.
  • Support the Operations Manager and take ownership of the shift when required.
  • Create a positive, accountable and high-performing culture.
  • Confidently manage performance issues and difficult conversations.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments.
  • Manage labour allocation, operational reporting and shift handovers.
  • Drive stock accuracy, investigate issues and coordinate resolutions.
  • Ensure operational equipment is maintained and available.
  • Conduct H&S walkarounds and ensure safe working practices are followed.

People Management & Development

  • Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews and development conversations.
  • Manage employee relations cases including welfare, disciplinary and grievance meetings.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and colleague development.
  • Recognise and reward great performance while driving continuous improvement.

A Few Things About You

Logistics Operations

  • Strong understanding of warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Experience in labour planning, stock control and operational problem-solving.
  • Confident using WMS, Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools.
  • Able to analyse data and drive performance improvements.
  • Proven experience in multi- site management.

Leadership & Development

  • Proven experience leading large teams (100+ colleagues) within a fast-paced operation.
  • Experience managing both permanent and agency workforces.
  • Confident handling challenging behaviours, difficult conversations and performance management.
  • Strong coach who can engage, develop and motivate teams.
  • Resilient and comfortable leading a large operation on nights.

Operational Performance

  • Able to optimise processes and deliver results under pressure.
  • Proven track record of improving operational performance and team engagement.
