Job Overview

About The Role

At AO Recycling, we’re proud to run one of the UK’s most advanced WEEE recycling facilities, where safety, quality and environmental responsibility genuinely matter. We process thousands of appliances every week, and keeping our people and processes safe is a huge part of how we operate.

As our Health, Safety & Environmental Officer, you’ll be a visible and hands on presence across the site, supporting teams, solving problems, and helping us maintain a safe, compliant and continuously improving operation. You’ll spend plenty of time building relationships, understanding how each area works, and helping AOers carry out tasks safely and confidently.

Day to day, you'll lead risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations, working with managers to put practical improvements in place. You’ll also help maintain our ISO management systems, keeping everything up to date and supporting internal and external audits.

We're big on helping our people understand what "good" looks like, so you’ll support training, share best practice and help embed a positive culture where everyone feels responsible for safety and quality. This is a role where you can make a real impact every day, protecting our people, improving our processes, and helping us operate responsibly and sustainably!

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

  • Supporting the day to Day delivery of the site’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality strategy
  • Promoting a strong safety first culture by working closely with operational teams across site
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and risk assessments
  • Supporting and maintaining ISO management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001)
  • Investigating incidents, identifying root causes and helping implement preventative actions
  • Providing coaching and guidance to colleagues and managers on best practices
  • Assisting with internal and external audits
  • Monitoring compliance with UK HSE legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting continuous improvement across safety, environmental and quality performance

This is a role where you’ll spend plenty of time out on site with the team, not just behind a desk.

A Few Things About You

  • Hold or are working towards NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Professional qualification in Environmental Management (e.g. IEMA, NEBOSH Environmental, or equivalent)
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (i.e. IOSH, IEMA, CIWM)
  • Experience in a HSE role, within recycling, manufacturing, or logistics
  • In depth knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Qualified as an Auditor or Lead Auditor
  • Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HSE management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

A Bit About Us

But we’re more than that… For over 25 years, trust has been at the heart of everything we do, helping us become the UK’s most trusted electrical retailer. Our customers rate us 4.9 on Trustpilot from nearly ONE MILLION reviews and more 5-star ratings than any other UK electrical retailer, because they know they can rely on us and it’s the exact same for our AOers too.

We truly believe it’s more than just a job, we genuinely care about each other and our impact on making our customers lives easier, by helping them brilliantly. Everyone here knows how their role makes a difference. Our people are our superpower, so, when it comes to finding new AOers, we know it’s about more than just a CV, it’s about what makes you, YOU.
