This year marks the 5th wave of our AO apprentices working to complete their Duke of Edinburgh award. It’s a special year for us, as they are the first group to go international by canoeing 70km over 4 days down the river Lahn in Germany.
At AO we pride ourselves on homegrowing our staff. We aim to supply our apprentices with the tools they need to develop within their roles, with the added knowledge and confidence to become future leaders within the business. That’s why we’ve really invested in this year’s D of E participants.
The group also paid a visit to our German head office, getting the chance to see the European operations first hand. After touring the office and logistics warehouse, they travelled to the expedition start point, to prepare for their 4 days of canoeing.
From that Tuesday, the group were completely self-sufficient, and had to use all the skills they learnt from the training, to canoe, camp and cook until Friday afternoon.
