AO.com and Derian House working to make others smile

Back to articles

We’re really pleased to be working with local charity Derian House to fund and support part of the refurbishment of the hospice. We can’ wait to see their new multi-use sensory space when it’s finished.

Derian House is a local hospice for young adults who have life-limiting conditions. They offer respite and end-of-life care to more than 300 children and young people across the North West.

The redeveloped 38sq/m multi-sensory space will have a significant positive impact on the daily life of Derian House Children’s Hospice. The proposed plans will mean improved technology to increase the ability to offer stimulation’s and interactive play of all types. Corridors will be replaced with large, bright ‘messy play’ areas for all ages and abilities.

As well as creating new spaces in what is known as the ‘Smile Zone’ after our charity, the colours of the rooms, specialist lighting and floor treatments will ensure the space has an enormous impact on those who use it and their families for many years to come.

AO Smile charity manager, Justin Packman, said: “AO.com has worked with Derian House for many years now and we had to get involved with their latest project transforming the aptly named ‘Smile Zone’.

“We’re working with Derian House to create a bright, fun and engaging space for the children and young adults who spend their time at the hospice. We want to ensure that the work we do makes the service sustainable and usable for many more years and has a positive impact on everyone.”
