An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our innovative plastics recycling plant in Telford. With over £6 million invested to date by, the site has the latest technology with the purpose of taking plastics from our fridge recycling site and turning them into high quality polymers for re-use in new products, using specialised sortation techniques. Whilst offering a great opportunity this role also offers a company car allowance.

This is an opportunity to be instrumental in running and growing the operation and supporting the continued investment in advanced technology. The 4-acre site, situated in Stafford Park, Telford, has small operational teams, along with engineering/maintenance and laboratory functions. As a key member of the site leadership team and reporting to the Plant Manager, this role involves managing the site, manufacturing process and quality, whilst maximising and continuously improving manufacturing efficiencies and minimising costs.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

Reporting into the Plant Manager, you will have direct management of a small operations team but a large-scale plastics recycling facility (capacity 25,000 tonnes per annum). You will be a catalyst to the continued growth of the operation, whilst continuously improving performance, measured by a broad range of KPI’s. You will challenge yourself and your team to succeed. You will be actively involved in delivering further investment to the site, turning aspiration into a reality.

By taking the team through operational excellence programs that you develop…

You will be expected to;

  • Enforce and maintain the company Health, Safety, and environmental policy; ensuring the H&S of all employees is a priority, built on strong standard operating procedures
  • The plant meets all environmental regulations, permits and licences associated with the site.
  • Monitor, challenge, stretch and drive key performance indicators ensuring the plant runs cost effectively with high levels of productivity but never at the expense of output quality.
  • Maintain a safe, well organised, and efficient production environment through the application of CI techniques.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Function to help maintain an effective TPM/PPM program.
  • Using strong leadership and people management skills, harness a high moral compass
  • Be clear on the vision of the site, AO Recycling and
  • Relentlessly challenge the quality of the output materials, challenge the status-quo, working closely with the onsite dedicated polymer lab and engineering functions.

A Few Things About You

A passion for manufacturing and continuous improvement, in all its forms (Lean, Six Sigma or common sense), with demonstrable experience in dealing with new challenges by fast learning and a relentless appetite to do better.

Be able to analyse both success and failure and stay focused on delivering solutions. Be comfortable in both both logical analysis and non-obvious solutions - being able to side-step hidden problems.

Have an engineering or manufacturing background - a related degree or other relevant qualification would be desirable.

Strong supervisory/ management mind, assigning responsibility with clear and measurable objectives.

Ability to focus on what’s important and prioritise effectively when faced with ambiguous situations.

Draw on previous experience but enjoy creating something new and authentic. Have an infectious attitude to accountability and performance management.

Capacity to switch quickly from short term to longer term planning, with large projects split into work packages, process steps and simple tasks.

Experience in working in a process/automated environment with large scale growth: Have a passion for process management.

  • 3 years’ Operational/Engineering supervision/management experience
  • Foundation Degree Level (or equivalent) with management or engineering focus
  • WAMITAB preferable but not essential (training available)
  • IOSH Qualified preferable but not essential (training available)
  • Continuous Improvement technique training advantageous (certification not essential)
