More About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to be the data leader within a fast-paced retail organisation influencing every corner of the organisation.

We have a huge amount of data in AO, and this role is about harnessing that untapped resource to power better outcomes, generate insights and support the decision making of our consumers, customer and colleagues.

You will be a lead of leads responsible for the design, delivery and iteration of an aspirational data strategy covering data visualisation, governance and advanced analytics.

Here's What You Can Expect to be Doing

After a thorough on-boarding period where you’ll learn all about our business and the technologies we use in our systems, you’ll be in a position to start taking responsibility for the solutions you build.

You can expect to collaborate with:

Retail, Commercial, Logistics and Finance teams * Development teams specifically BI, DBA's and SCV

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting teams of Data specialists through Servant leadership
  • Architecting and shaping data to form a single source of truth
  • Deliver data roadmaps, strategies to help achieve business outcomes
  • Acting as a data ambassador sharing knowledge in the community and building an invaluable network of data experts
  • Support the product mindset within the Systems and Engineering team
  • Fostering a culture of continual learning and experimentation
  • Supporting operational, reporting and data engineering teams

A Few Things About You

None of this will be new to you. You will have done it before with many teams. With all your skills and experience you now want to build a platform that makes a difference.

You’ll also need:

Extensive knowledge of the latest and greatest data engineering techniques and platforms

Experience leveraging the Cloud capabilities

Commercial awareness to know what to build

An appreciation for Machine Learning and AI strategies

Extensive technical expertise to build it well with knowledge of lakes, warehousing governance and data quality as well as SQL, Mongo, Kafka, S3

An in-depth understanding of agile principles including but not restricted to Scrum, Kanban and XP practices

A growth mindset, continually learning with a keen interest in AI, Machine Learning and emerging technologies

Executive- level communication skills being able to clearly articulate progress and intentions

The ability to influence and drive change in an organisation

Proven experience successfully building and leading teams
