More About the Role

The DevOps evangelist will work with everyone in the IT department; engaging with developers, infrastructure engineers, analysts, and managers to accelerate engineering, improve operability, and increase the value team’s delivery.

The DevOps Coaches are enablers, promoting the DevOps movement whilst educating teams on the best technologies and practices for achieving their business and team objectives. As such you will need to be a fast learner, staying up to date with bleeding edge cloud services with the communication skills to train out your finding to large groups of engineers.

Here's What You Can Expect to be Doing

You are going to be amongst the teams, working side by side with them to fully appreciate their solutions, frustration and bug bearers. With this, your expertise, and a strong sense of empathy, you’ll guide the team’s through a transformation program that will modernize their domains, embrace DevOps Culture & practices and speed up the delivery of new projects and deployments.

With a shared appreciation for security, operability and governance, you will help drive the principles you’ve agree with platform teams as part of your program of work. This will regularly require brand new tools to solve problems and automate away repetitive work that affects our internal IT teams.

Learn and be curious. Our team loves to innovate, so you'll always be on the lookout for the newest technology and what it can do to benefit everyone. You will give advice to IT teams and the wider department on what approaches and technologies to use on their own projects. This will help them to build the best IT systems in Europe.

It is also important that we track how well we are doing through regular measurement. Both in terms of the work we do and the impact of the improvements we make. As such, you will need to be able to distill complex information and metrics from the teams you work with to validate the value you intended and encourage other teams to adopt

A Few Things About You

  • A C# senior programmer with experience in Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience in developing and optimising CI pipelines and a continuous delivery (CD) mindset.
  • We are a Windows focused environment, so PowerShell or any other shell scripting knowledge would be a bonus.
  • Do you have a cloud certification? Excellent but not essential.
  • Experience working with a multi-account AWS organisation and managed services would be a bonus.
  • Security is important to you; you build with security in mind and develop processes that help engineers to build secure and compliant systems
  • Infrastructure as code (IAC) is a must, everything we build today is managed by code
  • You have an awareness of content delivery networks such as Cloudflare or CloudFront as well as knowledge on application performance management tools such as DynaTrace and NewRelic.
  • You can perform and lead effective root cause analysis to ensure that we learn from our mistakes and use it to drive improvements.
  • Do you also have a deep understanding of computer networks, security practices, and automation? You will regularly need to solve problems that involve crossing over into infrastructure, networking, and architecture.
  • It would be great, but not essential if you have any knowledge of logging/ELK stacks, service discovery, or systems monitoring.
  • If you have strong database query skills such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL this would be beneficial.
