About The Role

The Tech Commercial Manager is a senior level role that reports directly to the Head of Tech Commercial & Procurement. It is ultimately responsible for the reporting and forecasting of all Tech related spend at AO to the Tech Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as well as the management of the commercial assistants.

The role will typically be responsible for:

  • Delivering easy to digest financial reports that provide relevant targeted insights for Tech SLT.
  • Leading the generation of accurate forecasts of Tech spend throughout the year and specifically at Budget time.
  • Action plans to target reductions in Tech spend.
  • Developing and managing a team that is undergoing a maturity cycle.

The Tech Commercial Manager must be an effective change agent, playing the role of the educator while directing the commercial activities of IT and the business in a proactive and strategic way. The skills to influence and drive change, combined with the drive to deliver results, will enable this individual to support the rapid evolution of the business.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

Individuals in this position will be responsible for the following:

1. Organisation leadership:

  • Develop a very clear mission, vision and guiding principles for the team to align with the Tech and business strategy.
  • Ensure the development and maturity of key competencies, such as Business Relationship Management, Data Accuracy and Data Analysis.
  • Advance new skills and technology that support business agility and speed whilst teamed with improved levels of cost control.
  • Develop talent focusing on succession planning by training and mentoring direct reports to accept appropriate responsibility.

2. Tech Commercial strategy:

  • Assist in the development and deliver on the IT Commercial strategy
  • Set and attain the IT Commercial measurement targets with a combination of financial and nonfinancial deliverables.
  • Promote/communicate the importance of Financial reporting to the Tech Senior Leadership Team.

3. Financial reporting program:

  • Build an operating model that supports retrospective review as well as accurate future looking forecast of both BAU operational costs and transformational projects
  • Lead the evaluation of variable tech costs and drive action plans to target reductions
  • Introduce data insights to budget holders to promote ownership and as a result control
  • Build processes and workflows that support business objectives and are more proactive and agile in nature
  • Sponsor and initiate process improvement projects to improve commercial service delivery to exceed internal stakeholder satisfaction and requirements.

A Few Things About You

Education and Training

  • A bachelor's degree in business or other management discipline, such as supply chain management or Commercial Finance. An advanced business degree is desired.
  • Certification by professional bodies, such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
  • Experience
  • 5 or more years in a Commercial role is expected, with at least 3 looking after the Tech Category
  • Other functional experience, particularly in IT, is highly desirable and beneficial
  • A demonstrated ability to achieve superior results from leading a Commercial function is expected.
  • Someone who has developed an effective Tech Commercial strategy that had a high impact in a similar capacity.
  • Financial accounting experience, is an advantage
  • Legal experience, with a background in technology contracts, is an advantage.

Required Knowledge and Skill

  • Strong Excel skills and knowledgeable in financial management, and financial reporting.
  • Good Knowledge of P&L monthly accounting processes
  • Good Knowledge of Budget processes
  • Demonstrated leadership, including team leadership and organisational skills, in a cross-cultural environment in a job with a similar level of responsibility
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills
