Job Overview

About The Role

We've just reached 500,000 Trustpilot reviews, so you might know AO for our brilliant customer service - but we're much more than that. We also support landlords, charities and other businesses with all their electrical needs.

As a Category Buyer at AO, you’ll be the one who decides what products to stock up on and how many to get. You'll be keeping tabs on what’s trending in the market and keeping an eye on our competitors' moves. At the same time, you'll be negotiating with suppliers to secure the best deals and make sure everything stays within our budget.

We know we work better when we’re together, so all our AOers come into the office Monday to Friday. We collaborate more easily, have continual conversations, we’re more creative, give better support, and all this makes us more motivated and even better at what we do.

Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing

  • You’ll be on the hunt for new products within specific ranges from our branded key suppliers
  • Take the reins in managing and negotiating terms of contract while keeping those connections strong and smooth sailing
  • Staying on top of what your competitors are up to, and be ready to adjust as you keep tabs on how the market is shifting and where the trends are heading
  • Whether it’s the next big trend or an unexpected rush in demand, you’ll be at the top of your game to make sure our shelves are stocked with exactly what our customers want
  • Analysing sales figures, then giving a rundown on how things are going

A Few Things About You

  • Experience of working as a Category Buyer in a retail capacity
  • Able to successfully negotiate trading and extended ranges
  • You’re pretty good at forming strong, professional relationships with all our Account Managers and suppliers
  • Absolutely comfortable and self-assured when it comes to communicating and presenting

A Bit About Us

When it comes to appliances and electricals, we’ve got the lot. Washing machines? Yep. TVs? Check. Laptops? Absolutely. Everything except doorbells (just kidding, we’ve got those too).

We’re known for helping our customers brilliantly - and it’s no different for AOers. We care about more than what’s on your CV, because together we can do extraordinary things.

Our Benefits

As an AOer, you’ll have access to tonnes of benefits, put together to cover the moments that matter to you. Further details are available on our benefits page;

  • Our Value Creation Plan; We've created a unique long term bonus plan for every AOer to share in our success, giving you the opportunity of an exceptional reward in return for exceptional business performance.
  • Holidays; 25 days, plus bank holidays (increasing to 27 days after 2 years with us!)
  • Pension; Contribute 5% of your annual salary and we'll do the same, giving you a little extra support for the future.
